“I know these are holidays for many of you and that you’re right fed up with Virus-this and Virus-that. And who can blame you? So I won’t bring that up. Not now. I’ll just wish you all well.
Set grumps and pouts aside. Be safe and kind and love each other.”
“We hear it’s been a rough week. There is much sadness and loss and worry out there in your world. We feel it too. It’s not easy just staying alive these days. You have to be smart and careful, even if you don’t want to be. And then it feels like just too much to even bother, right?”
“Well, that’s why we’re here. To give your spirits a boost with a dose of aww.”
“Great Panda, a word. The humans had some elections last night and a lot of them are feeling all doom and gloom this morning. If you could remind them, perhaps, of the Panda way. That telling truth and doing good is what counts. That such losses aren’t the end of the world, they just mean doing better next time. Lots better.
Oh, and remind them to care for each other and keep safe.”
Shawn has her plate full going over proofs from her new book (Tarot of Dragons/Wisdom from the Dragon Realms), so the otters and my kin decided to step in and play a few golden oldies from the COVID Critter playlist. Which is why we’re late.
Today, we’ll start easy. Just hanging out, getting musical, and staying safe. Try it. You’ll like it.”
“Yo-yo-yo! As you can see, I’m a Red Panda, and Otto thought I might have some sway with you safety-averse red-state humans.
I know, it’s rather basic chromatic thinking, but I’m cute and, hey, if it works, it works.
So I’m here to tell you to be Red Panda smart. Get vaccinated, wear masks without fuss, and stop going to the feed store for your medicine.”
“Autumn’s almost here so I thought I’d stop by, give the otters a break, and see how you two-legs are doing.
That I am disappointed doesn’t begin to cover it. Oh, the opportunities squandered, the science ignored. The little ones endangered.
For what? Catering to loonies? An illusion of power? So much brilliance and so much stupidity wrapped up in one species. Amazing you humans have lasted as long as you have.
I’ll be back next month – Halloween and I are color-coordinated, don’t you know – and maybe, by then… Well, a panda can hope.”
“The otters are still recovering from their epic celebration, so, naturally, I got called in again. Just want everyone to stay safe, get your shots.
We’re not out of the woods yet, you know. And it’s the caring thing to do.
Plus, I’m really tired of Badari photobombing my zoom sessions.”
