Happy Kiss a Dragon Day!

Now that we’ve taken the first step in making amends to our Dragon friends for past wrongs, it is the Feast Day of St. Francis, and time to give our scaly friends a BIG thank you and a bless them with a kiss because…

Because they’re Dragons!

Personally, I love Kiss a Dragon Day. Dragons have stood by us through thick and thin, good times and very, very bad. More often than not, they treated us far better than we deserved. In the spirit of Francis, it is only proper to take a moment to be grateful for our companions wondrous and wild. Not to mention that such an outpouring of generous energy can’t help but make the world a better place.[1]

This year, I want to add an extra hug, nose rub, and huge thank-you to the Dragons who watch over my humble abode. Yesterday was one of those blue-devil days that only a good night’s sleep and a new morning could fix. Unfortunately, the morning started with someone breaking into our house. Not the way I want to wake up, thank you very much. But my Dragons were here, keeping me calm and centered and everyone safe. With their blessing, vigilant neighbors, and an excellent constabulary, we are all well – if a bit shaky.

Thus, my affection and gratitude flow, hard and steady as the rain outside my window.

Now, go give your Dragon the affection she so richly deserves.

[1] A brief reminder to the eager, if inexperienced dracophile: For safety’s sake you might want to make that “Kiss Your Dragon” or at least, “Kiss A Dragon You Know.” Most Dragons are not averse to affection, but, as with any wild creature, you don’t want to force yourself on them uninvited. Also, keep plenty of lip balm on hand, just in case.

In the tradition of Month of the Dragon, everyone who leaves a comment here at Dragon’s Nest has their name go into a hat. At the end of the month, a name will be drawn and the winner will receive a signed copies of my books, The Dragon Keeper’s Handbook and Dragons for Beginners (both from Llewellyn Worldwide). Hope everyone is feeling lucky!
