About Shawn MacKENZIE

Shawn MacKENZIE (Southern Vermont) is a life-long student of the strange and mysterious—myths, arts, religions, sciences, the occult—as well as all creatures, seen and unseen, real, cryptic, great, and small. She is the author of Tarot of Dragons, The Dragon Keeper’s Handbook, Dragons for Beginners, Llewellyn’s Little Book of Dragons, as well as numerous essays and fictions. Minnesotan by birth, she now lives in the shadow of the Green Mountains with eight cats, two rats, and an Amazon parrot. They are constant inspiration.

I like the lighthouse the best…it leads us to a shore, it guides us to safety. And I lived in Maine and have vacationed there a lot, so I just love lighthouses. God rest his soul…if only we could all live the legacy.

I love lighthouses, too –they are hope when we need it most, I see Mandela as one in a long line of men and women leading us in our evolution towards solving problems nonviolently. But even he was a man of evolution – not always believing that nonviolence was the way. If someone in the thick of oppression can see the way, surely the rest of us can with ease. We just need the vision and the will. We can but hope….
