One of the Chanukah traditions I grew up with was the giving of books. In retrospect – and from an over-analyzed socio-stereotyped perspective – it may have had something to do with the emphasis placed on reading and learning in every Jewish household I knew. Even our very eccentric, humanistic one. Books were the portal into worlds near and far, familiar and fantastical.

And so this fifth day of Chanukah is all about stories, between covers hard or paper, or nowadays in digital format. In the warm glow of candlelight, enjoy the sharing of a book – perhaps even a tome or two about Dragons – with friends and family. (Around here, the cats are particularly fond of story time, their current read beig JK Rowling’s new book. A good read even if there are no Dragons in it.)

Happy Day V!
